Macquarie Park Cemetery — A Northern Sydney Landmark
Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium is one of Sydney's most significant and well-maintained cemeteries, located at the corner of Delhi and Plassey Roads in North Ryde. Spanning 59 hectares of Crown land, it has been serving the northern Sydney community since its first burial in 1922.
Originally known as the Northern Suburbs General Cemetery, the site was renamed Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium in 2004 following the introduction of its chapel and crematorium facilities. It is managed as a not-for-profit community service on behalf of the NSW Government.
The cemetery is the final resting place of a number of notable Australians, including former Prime Ministers Bob Hawke and Billy Hughes. It also contains the war graves of 73 Commonwealth service personnel from the Second World War.
